Two Robins, a Chappel and a Boy with His Cat

And just like that the weekend is nearly over.

It was a lovely day that started with waking up to see one of the kids sleeping soundly next to me.

Then - me running half asleep around the house rushing the other two to stay in beds and let the little one catch up with his sleep - he was up early.

I should have known that I would just be wasting my energy. No one listened.

Everyone was awake at 7am on a Sunday morning, hungry and ready for their breakfast.

The older boys like to make it themselves but today I took my turn and set up the breakfast table for them.

The little one got his first ever breakfast in bed - my bed. Then we all enjoyed catching up with my parents via the WhatsApp video. They loved to see the boys and the cat. Our chat lasted for longer than planned, thus some of the morning plans had to be cancelled so that we can still have a stress free morning and get ready for the playdate with one of the friends and his mom at lunch time.

It was an amazing playdate.

We agreed to meet at the Rosslyn Chapel. A beautiful place which is not far away from our home. Pinky Piglet (the cat) was invited along not knowing at the time that she will be carried over 2 bridges and will enjoy a little stroll in the Roslin Glen Country Park. I had to ask permission from my son to carry her and was reminded that it is not my cat. It is EPP’s cat. I only provide the home and the food.

The two most important ideas from last year were not mine - to have the cat and the cat name. I must admit the kids do have awesome ideas and I am awaiting to hear what they come up with this year.

So - two moms, four active boys and a cat in a well-visited touristic area. Yes, we got some attention. First - they could hear the kids enjoying themselves, and then - they saw the cat.

We had a beautiful walk and decided to end our playdate at the Rosslyn Chapel Coffee shop.

Eventually, the friendly staff allowed me to take the cat in, after seeing my sad face of not understanding why she wouldn't be allowed, especially when I saw that the memories  of William the Chappel Cat are all over the place - from pictures to soft toys in the Gift Shop.

It seems that it is rare that someone brings the cat in.

After clarifying with their management - it was not the problem, as long as she stayed in her carrier. And she did - peacefully enjoying the chaos of the lively place and kids having fun in the inside play area.

Even within the carrier, she made some friends - a little girl and her mom, who came to say hello to her. They saw us walking in the Country Park earlier. They told us a lovely story about how they used to walk with their cat. Thank goodness - it was a relief to hear that it’s not just us then who let their house cat to explore the world from time to time.

The little one spent most of the time playing with his friend. His brothers were given the freedom to order anything they wanted from the coffee shop. The big brother generously shared his monetary present that he got from grandparents for his birthday. I can say they went all in and it was obvious who has the sweetest tooth in the family and is the most generous, and bought two Williams from the Gift Shop - one for him and one for the little brother.

Apart from a wonderful time spent outside, we were lucky to be visited by two robins.

We saw one outside the Rosslyn Chapel’s coffee shop window. The other in the car park. It flew out of nowhere and sat on the road just in front of our car. Then flew closer and sat on the wing mirror.

It was magic.

Me and the boys were amazed to see this beautiful bird sitting fearless so close to us.

Of course, by the time I took out my camera - it was gone.
